Could it be a special edition?
The Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Aprilia launched the SR150 scooter in August 2015. NDTV now reveals that Aprilia India will be launching another SR badged scooter in January 2017.
With automatic scooters in vogue, Aprilia entered this segment at the Auto Expo with a product that offers the "sensation of sports bikes coupled with the convenience of automatic scooters". Priced slightly below the Vespa cousins, the Aprilia SR 150 is a premium 'performance' offering.
Speaking to NDTV, Mr Stefano Pelle, ?Managing Director at Piaggio Vehicles, said:
We will bring the new SR scooter to India around January 2017. Let's just say that it will be a more peppier version of the scooter.
The second statement gives hope of a possibly more powerful scooter. A special edition of the SR150 perhaps with more grunt? Piaggio does have a bigger single cylinder, fuel injected 278 cc mill from the SR Max300, churning out 22 PS of power and 23 Nm of torque. However, chances of a 300 cc scooter coming in so soon is slim.
The company was very aggressive with the price of the SR150 and chances are that even the upcoming scooter will be competitively priced. The Aprilia SR150 currently carries a price tag of Rs 67,396 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is manufactured in India at Piaggio’s Baramati facility.
The new SR badged scooter can also be expected to roll out from the existing facility.
