India-made Hyundai i20 N-Sport does 0-100 km/h in 8.9 secs

While Hyundai launched a sporty Hyundai i20 N-Sport for the South African market back in August 2015, a report from Autoworld sheds light on the changes carried out for this variant, and the performance on offer.

The Hyundai i20 N-Sport gets a free-flow exhaust in addition to stiffer springs and a bodykit.

To start with, the i20 N-Sport gets modifications to the exterior which include 17-inch alloy wheels with a graphite finish, a sport bodykit, a stainless steel free-flow cat-back exhaust system and N-badges on the front fenders and rear hatchback door. The bodykit consists of side skirts, front and rear bumper lip spoilers, and a rear spoiler.

On the mechanical front, the Hyundai i20 N-Sport is powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder 16-valve petrol engine with dual continuous variable valve timing technology and multi-point electronic fuel injection. The engine develops 85 kW (113.98 hp) and delivers peak torque of 160 Nm via a 6-speed manual transmission.

When tested by the publication, the i20 N-Sport did the 0-100 km/h sprint in a Fiat Abarth Punto-rivaling 8.9 seconds, and hit a top-speed of 190 km/h. Average fuel consumption was recorded at 12.04 km/l.

Compared to the standard i20, the i20 N-Sport gets solid disc brakes at the rear and a 4-wheel electronic 4-channel ABS system along with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and stiffer springs. It is priced at 265,900 Rand (INR 11.44 lakhs) which includes a warranty and roadside assistance for 5 years or 150,000 km, and a service plan for 3 years or 60,000 km.
