Features power and torque increase.
The globally successful Hyundai i20 hatchback has been given the N Sport treatment by Hyundai. Launched this week in South Africa, the Hyundai i20 N Sport derivative, imported from India, is priced at R235,500 (INR 11.75 lakh).
The N Sport package adds a different 1.4-liter four-cylinder 16-valve petrol engine with dual continuous variable valve timing technology and multi point electronic fuel injection. The engine puts out a healthy 85 kW (113.98 hp) and delivers peak torque of 160 Nm.
This is a step up compared to the standard i20 on offer that also sports a 1.4-liter engine. The normal engine develops 74 kW (99.23 hp) at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 133 Nm at 3,300 rpm. The tweaked 1.4-liter i20 N Sport engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
In terms of stylistic changes, the N Sport package gives the i20 added side skirts and bumper trims. The car's MacPherson struts suspension at the front and the semi-independent setup coupled with torsion beam axle at the rear have been tweaked for sportier performance. The N Sport's stiffer springs lowers the car's CoG and translates to better road handling, says the company.
Four-wheel EBD and 4-channel ABS along with ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear complete the N Sport package.
