Pays hommage to the iconic BMW 2002 Turbo.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the iconic BMW 2002 range, the German manufacturer unveiled the BMW 2002 Hommage at the Concorso d’Eleganza in Italy on May 20.
Based on the BMW 2 Series, the concept is designed with compact proportions, a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a “shark nose” inspired by the 2002 Turbo. It features a front and rear spoiler for maximum downforce during high-speed cornering, plenty of sculpted features on the side profile and flared wheel arches that mimic the track width of the 2002 Turbo.
Up front, the 2002 Hommage has a low-standing BMW kidney grille with black slats and matte silver enclosures, two single headlights bordered by golden reflectors, M tri-color paint on the ORVM caps and front apron, and a Turbo badge next to the left headlight.
The rear-end has LED taillights similar in design to the 2002 Turbo, BMW logo right between the license plate and right taillamp, and a carbon diffuser that houses two sets of matte-finish twin tailpipes.
50 years ago, the BMW 2002 range set the standard for high performance sedans, being one of the very few cars to feature turbocharging. The 2002 Hommage is considered as a modern day interpretation of the 2002 Turbo that also celebrates its success in its time.
