Maruti hatchback in question likely to be the upcoming Maruti Ignis.
In an interview with Autocar Professional, Jay K Kunkel, president Asia-Pacific of Lear Corp has confirmed that the company will be manufacturing the seats for an upcoming Maruti hatchback.
The hatchback in question is likely to be the upcoming Maruti Ignis, as Mr Kunkel hinted that the production of the hatchback is to start soon, and that the company needed to establish a supply line quickly. The new seats are lightweight and less expensive, which would’ve likely grabbed the attention of Maruti’s engineers and supply managers.
The next major product launch for Maruti-Suzuki is the compact Maruti Ignis crossover. It will launch during the festive season period of 2016 and aims to be one of the most fuel efficient crossovers in the market.
Lear will also be manufacturing seats for the next generation Honda Brio, and have already commenced working with Honda’s engineers on it. It is expected to arrive in Indian showrooms in late-2017.
