One of the biggest highlights of the Baleno RS will be the 1.0-liter Boosterjet engine, which is Maruti's first turbocharged petrol engine. Already being offered in the export-spec Suzuki Baleno, the 1.0-liter turbo engine outputs 111 PS and 160 Nm of torque. For the India-spec Baleno RS, Maruti will tune the engine to run on the lower grade of petrol commonly available in the country.

The Baleno RS will target the VW Polo GT TSI, which is also powered by a small turbocharged engine. However, the Polo GT TSI offers a quick 7-speed DSG, while the Baleno RS was showcased at the Auto Expo with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
