Honda BR-V scores 5/5 in ASEAN crash test, India launch next month

The Honda BR-V has scored the maximum safety rating in crash testing done by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). The 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection is only for the trim levels fitted with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both frontal occupants, the ones not having these features receive 4-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection. Both trim levels tested have been given 4-star rating for Child Occupant Protection.

The Honda BR-V's safety and assistance features include Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, dual front SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) and reversing camera. Powering the (Thai-spec) Honda BR-V, is a 1.5-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 86 kW (115 hp) and 146 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a continuously variable transmission.

The Honda BR-V will be sold with 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and i-DTEC diesel engines in India.

The Honda BR-V will be launched in India next month and will be offered with the same petrol engine offered in Thailand. Also on offer, will be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel engine that makes 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque in the Honda Mobilio. The petrol engine may be offered with a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission or both, while the diesel engine will likely be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission.
