Debut at 2015 IAA in Frankfurt.
The second generation 2016 VW Tiguan is finally going official ahead of its motor show debut at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt. So far, spyshots of test mules have revealed an evolutionary design that is a major step up over the outgoing model.
Auto Zeitung has rendered the 2016 VW Tiguan, which looks more angular and bigger than the first generation model. It drops the crossover look for a compact SUV styling. For the first time, the Tiguan will be available as a long wheelbase model (VW Tiguan XL) with 7 seats, and, reportedly, as a sleek 5-door coupe-crossover (VW Tiguan CC) to take on the upmarket Range Rover Evoque.
To be based on the MQB platform underpinning the VW Golf and VW Passat (B8), the 2016 VW Tiguan will feature a new range of fuel efficient TSI and TDI engines compatible with the new platform, such as a frugal 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine. A 4MOTION electronic all-wheel drive system will be offered as standard for higher variants.
The VW Tiguan will also be introduced in India for the first time, and is expected to push the sales figures for VW India, rather then being launched just as an image builder. It could be competitively priced by localizing certain extent of the components.
