Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG and head of Audi’s Technical Development, earlier told Indian Autos Blog that the 2015 Audi Q5 will make its global premiere this year. The second refresh for the Q5 is aimed at keeping the model fresh until the arrival of an all-new product sometime in 2016.
Here is a speculative rendering of the next gen Audi Q5 which derives design cues from the brand's recent crossover design concepts like the Audi Crosslane Coupe and AllRoad Shooting Brake.
The net result is a completely reworked front fascia with a sportier appeal. The new three-dimensional hexagonal front grille with possible chrome treatment has pronounced edges, accommodating horizontal chrome slats embedded in glossy black inserts. The new bumper incorporates a massive airdam and the narrow headlamps would feature LED Matrix technology on the higher variants.
The side of the SUV would not witness much of a change while the rear fascia is expected to adopt revised elements to complement the new front end. The interior is expected to undergo significant changes in addition to new equipment.
Under the skin, the 2016 Audi Q5 would be based on the VW Group's flexible MLB platform. Four- and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines mated to manual and automatic transmissions would be on offer.
The India-spec Audi Q5 is being assembled at VW Group's CKD assembly plant in Aurangabad and hence the next gen model should be launched in India shortly after its international debut.
As of now Audi India is just days away from launching the entry level luxury sedan, the A3 Sedan.
