In a surprise of sorts, Audi India has unveiled the 2016 Audi A4 to the Indian public at the 2016 Auto Expo, alongside the second generation Audi R8.
With an all-new design, the fifth generation 2016 Audi A4 retains its unmistakable looks. It can be said that the new generation is more aesthetically pleasing with many new technologies for comfort, entertainment and efficiency.
The 2016 Audi A4 is 4,726 mm tall, 1,842 mm wide and 1,427 mm tall, and has a 2,820 mm long wheelbase. The length, width and wheelbase have been increased by 25 mm, 16 mm and 12 mm respectively, compared to the currently sold A4.
Despite the increased dimensions and a host of newly added features, the new generation Audi A4 is up to 120 kg lighter compared to the fourth generation model, thanks to the second generation MLB (MLB-Evo) platform that forms the basis. The new generation A4 has a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.23 cd.
Noteworthy features of the 2016 Audi A4 include Matrix LED headlights, dynamic turn signals, Audi virtual cockpit with 12.3-inch LCD screen, colour head-up display, Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound System with 19 speakers and 16 channel Class D, 755 watt amplifier and MMI Navigation plus infotainment based on second generation modular infotainment platform with 8.3-inch screen, MMI touch, new, natural voice-control system and Audi smartphone interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
The 2 engines expected to be offered in India are the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol unit produces 140 kW (190 hp) and 320 Nm of torque and the 2.0-litre TDI diesel unit that produces 140 kW/190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The petrol model with the S tronic transmission can reach 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 240 km/h. The diesel model can reach 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 210 km/h.
The model showcased packs a more-powerful 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine which outputs 272 hp.
