As seen in the endless leaks of its 1:43 scale model, the Volvo S90 is the second model to feature the company's next generation design language, first being the 2015 XC90. Like its bigger brother, the S90 gets a long grille with vertical slats, LED headlamps with Thor Hammer DRLs, new bumper design with sleek foglamps, and a clean hood.

The side profile has the characteristic muscular shoulder line, chrome window lining, and new alloy rim designs, while the rear-end sports bold C-shaped LED taillamps, dual exhaust tips and Volvo lettering across the bootlid.

Inside, it upholds the company's new philosophy of "less is more". Like the XC90, the new S90 has very minimal button count, with the key features now being integrated into the large 9-inch Sensus touchscreen. It also has a driver's display, Bowers and Wilkins audio system, and a Head Up display. Variants powered by the T8 Twin Engine will feature an exclusive Orrefors crystal drive selector for the gearbox.

Speaking of which, the Volvo S90 will source its engine lineup from the XC90, which is the 2.0-liter Drive E range of engines. It will be available in three petrol variants: turbocharged and supercharged T6 engine, a turbocharged T5 variant, and the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid modification, while a D5 variant is also expected for diesel-friendly markets. Volvo will reveal the power figures close to its premiere.

New safety features in the S90 include an advanced semi-autonomous drive feature called Pilot Assist, which offers “gentle steering inputs” to keep the car properly aligned within lanes up to speeds of around 130 km/h, and a brake support function that can detect large animals.
