No plans for production yet.
Proton teased the 2016 Perdana sedan at the Alami Proton event, but that’s not all. It has showcased a new concept, calling it simply the Proton Pick-up Concept, reports Paultan.
The concept sports a front end that is similar to Ford’s F-150 Raptor pickup. It has an imposing grille that is split by a thick silver-finished bar that also houses thin strips of LEDs at each end that pass off as headlights. The radiator grille gets a honeycomb design while the lower portion is taken up by the rugged-looking skid plate.
The website reports that the side profile and interior is same as that of the Exora MPV. The flanks have the same A-pillar while the dashboard layout is the same as that of the people carrier. The rear sports a tail gate with the company name written in bold letters on a dark grey strip that also wraps around the sides while incorporating the tiny tail lights. The loading lip is low which should facilitate easy loading and unloading.
When Proton’s head of design Azlan Othman was asked about producing the Pick-up, he replied, “Looking at how successful the Jumbuck (a FWD utility vehicle) was, there’s no reason for us not to look at segments where we were once profitable.” That said, there are no concrete production plans for now.
