The design of the Perdana is a departure from the Honda Accord on which it is based.
The 2016 Proton Perdana was featured in a Malaysian film that the company says was a work in progress and not the final design. Now, Proton has officially teased the upcoming D-segment sedan, reports Paultan.
The 2016 Perdana was teased at the Alami Proton event in Shah Alam. The previous Proton Perdana, a rebadged Honda Accord, was reserved only for government officials while this one, with a complete new design and interior, will also be sold to the public. The company officials, which included founder and chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for a brief moment, revealed the front and rear portion of the car thus showing the front fog lamps and the taillamp design.
The model teased was in red colour that is expected to be among the five colour options on offer. The new Proton is based on the eighth-generation Honda Accord but gets a new fastback design. The covered car revealed some design features like a teardrop-shaped glasshouse, shark-fin antenna, boot-lid spoiler, prominent wheel arches, and angular styling for the head and tail lamps and front fender vents.
The front teaser did not show much apart from the fog lamp design and the five-spoke dual-tone alloys. The rear shot revealed a bit more. The LED tail lights are similar to the ones seen in the example on the movie set, the rectangular exhausts are integrated into the bumper while a chrome strip appears to connect the taillights.
The website reports that engines for the 2016 Proton Perdana from Honda will be retained, which will be a 2.0-liter petrol producing 154 hp/189 Nm of torque and a 2.4-liter unit generating 177 hp/222 Nm. Both engines will be mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
