50 kg heavier than the 488 GTB.
The Ferrari 488 Spider has made its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, six months after the Ferrari 488 GTB made its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
The two-part electronically-folding hardtop can be opened or closed in just 14 seconds even when the car is in motion. Ferrari claims that the 488 Spider as structurally stiff as the 488 GTB, and has 23 per cent more torsional rigidity than the its predecessor, the 458 Spider. It is built on a "high performance spaceframe chassis made of 11 different 6000 series aluminium alloys" and varying percentages of magnesium.
According to Ferrari, the 488 Spider is the most aerodynamically-efficient convertible they have produced and this has been made possible thanks to a blown spoiler and an aerodynamic underbody that integrates vortex generators.
Powering the convertible is a 3,902 cc twin-turbo V8 that produces 670 PS and a peak torque output of 760 Nm. Dispatching this power to the rear wheels is a 7-speed F1 dual clutch transmission, which enables the 488 Spider to cover the 0-100 km/h sprint in a scant 3.0 seconds, 0-200 in 8.7 seconds, before reaching a claimed top speed of 325 km/h.
