The GTI is more than just stickers or badges.

Volkswagen has not formally announced that it will be launching the fastest Polo in India, the 2015 VW Polo GTI, but the car has been spotted yet again without camouflage. The latest spy pictures come from Team BHP member Tushky.

The Polo GTI is seen sporting full-LED headlamp, exclusive honeycomb mesh grille, bumper with larger intake and a 10 mm lower ground clearance.

The exterior has subtle changes that differentiate the go-faster version from the standard model such as the LED headlights with LED DRLs, new honeycomb grille, aggressive front and rear bumpers with bigger front air intake, red brake calipers, dark red taillight cluster, GTI insignias, side skirts, diffuser, rear spoiler and exposed exhaust tips. Interiors get sport seats, new steering wheel, contrast red stitching and aluminium pedals that follow the design of larger Golf GTI.

The engine powering the 2015 Polo GTI is a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit from the VW Group’s EA888 engine family; which is also found in the Skoda Octavia. This unit generates 187 bhp and 320 Nm of torque which is an increase of 10 bhp and 70 Nm over its predecessor, which had a smaller displacement of 1.4-litres.

The other differentiating aesthetics are the red taillight graphic, rear diffuser, exposed tailpipes, GTI insignias, side skirts, 17-inch wheels and large roof spoiler.

In international markets this hot hatch comes with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and can be opted for with a 6-speed manual. On both variants, Volkswagen claims that 0 to 100 km/h is possible in 6.7 seconds.

Some of the standard features on the Polo GTI are 17-inch alloy wheels, 4 disc brakes, sports suspension, engine drag torque control (MSR), electronic differential lock (EDS), and the Polo's new vehicle dynamics function XDS+. An optional 'Sport Select' gives the car electronically adjustable dampers. The 'Sport Performance' kit, when installed, offers a sportier steering and sharper throttle response.

The 1.8-liter turbo petrol engine on the Polo GTI develops 192 PS and 320 Nm, giving it a 0-100 km/h time of 6.7 seconds.

In the cabin, standard features include footwell lighting, Driver Alert System, a sound actuator, 'Plus' multifunction display, 'Composition Touch' infotainment system, and 'ParkPilot' for front and rear. Heated windscreen washer nozzles and headlight cleaning system come standard as well, putting it far ahead of the top-end Polo sold in India, in terms of equipment.

The Polo GTI, if introduced, will be the fastest hatchback in India. If Volkswagen India is not looking at mass-producing this car as it will mostly play the role of a halo product, it is likely to priced at INR 25-30 lakh. If localized with parts produced for the Polo GT, the price could duck under the INR 20 lakh mark.
