With a rumored 300 hp engine under the hood and the weight loss, the 2019 VW Golf GTI could be a handful to drive.

The eighth generation VW Golf GTI will be based on the MQB-Evo platform, and is expected to be around 40 kg lighter than the outgoing model. With a rumored 300 hp engine under the hood and the weight loss, the 2019 VW Golf GTI could be one extreme ride.

The immense power output may either come from a revised version of the 2.0-liter turbo unit or a narrow angle V6 motor. For people who think 300 PS is a bit too much, VW will, reportedly, add a Golf GTI "Classic" with 265 PS, whereas for those who think otherwise, there will be a 326 PS GTI Clubsport, and a 400 PS Golf R.

Transmission options, it is speculated, include a six-speed manual transmission for driving purists, and a 10-speed DSG capable of handling up to 550 Nm torque.

Other than the regular VW Golf Mk VIII, VW could also introduce a hybrid and EV (successors to the Golf GTE and e-Golf) Given that Maruti is looking to establish the premium hatchback segment with the Maruti YRA, its success could have VW India thinking about introducing the VW Golf when it enters the next generation.
