Even as the next generation Hyundai Elantra is getting ready to be revealed soon, Hyundai India unveiled the facelifted Elantra last month calling it the 2015 Hyundai Elantra. Prices start at INR 14.13 lakhs for the base petrol and INR 14.57 lakh for the base diesel variants (all prices ex-Showroom, New Delhi).
The Elantra is powered two engines, one petrol and one diesel. While the 1.8-liter dual VTVT petrol engine makes 149.5 PS at 6,500 rpm and produces 18.1 kgm of peak torque at 4,700 rpm, the 1.6-liter VGT CRDi diesel engine – the more popular choice in India – produces 128 PS at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 26.5 kgm between 1,900 and 2,750 rpm.
The segment the Elantra deals in is dominated by the Toyota Altis and the Hyundai manages roughly 300 units a month. Both models come with gearbox option between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
Hyundai claims ARAI figures of 16.3 km/l for the 6-speed MT petrol model and 14.34 km/l for the 6-speed AT petrol model. The 6-speed MT diesel claims a best-in-segment mileage of 22.7 km/l, whilst the 6-speed AT returns 19.11 km/l.
For the both the petrol and diesel variants, the AT is available only in the SX-AT variant. While the petrol-engined Elantra gets the base S, mid SX, and top SX-AT variants, the diesel gets a base variant, S, SX, and SX-AT variants.
