Sits on an updated IMV platform.

Indian Autos Blog’s design artist Shoeb R Kalania has come up with a simulation of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, based on the recent spyshots from Thailand revealing its frontal styling and its overall revolutionary design.

The new Fortuner has a Lexus-esque nose and retains the floating D-Pillar.

The 2016 Fortuner is made to look sleeker and has a more luxurious appearance. The strong hood line, smaller and edgy headlamps, trimmed twin-slat chrome grille, and a bumper with craftily carved out air-dam and fog lamp enclosures dominate the front fascia.

The rendering also displays the heavily sculpted body, artfully designed window lines and pillars, and kinked rear quarter glass. The wheel arches have been given more emphasis, with nicely integrated side foot step. A new 12-spoke, diamond-cut alloy pattern is also visualised.

The new Fortuner is built on an updated IMV platform say sources, which also underpins the new Hilux Pickup and the Innova MPV that launch in the second half of the year. Underneath is the usual ladder frame chassis similar, but with higher stiffness and lower weight.

The dashboard design is likely to mimic the new Corolla (pictured) with a touchscreen infotainment system.

Though technical details of the new Fortuner is not announced, Toyota is predicted to employ a new-age diesel engine along with petrol motors with improved performance and fuel efficiency, and manual and automatic options for both mills, as currently.

The mid-size SUV will see a possible revealing in Thailand by the month of July this year, and launch in India during Auto Expo 2016 alongside the new Innova.
