Mercedes will world debut at least three models at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show. Apart from the new 2015 C Class and the GLA 45 AMG, the Stuttgart-based carmaker will also premiere the S600 V12, images and details of which have leaked out early.
Powered by the same 6.0-liter V12 engine as the S65 AMG (which had its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Tokyo Motor Show in November last year), the S600 produces 530 hp between 4,900-5,300 rpm and 830 Nm of torque between 1,900-4,000 rpm.
Compared to the S65 AMG, the S600 is 100 hp and 170 Nm low on power and torque respectively. Also, while the S65 AMG gets an AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7-speed MCT transmission, the S600 has to do with the conventional 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
As a result, the S600 takes 4.6 seconds to do the 0-100 km/h sprint (the S65 does it in 4.3 seconds) while the top-speed, like other S Class models, is electronically restricted to 250 km/h. In the European driving cycle, the S600 will achieve 8.85 km/l (the S65 achieves 8.4 km/l).
On the outside, the S600 will sport quad-exhausts, 'a S600' badge on the bootlid and 'V12' logos on the front fenders. The S600 will be available solely as a long wheelbase model.
