This is the third set of spyshots of the 2015 Land Rover Freelander we're presenting to our readers in one month. These pictures were sent in by Indian Autos Blog reader, Lalu Krishnan S.
Mr. Krishnan says that the car was testing in Trivandrum, near the Technopark.
This further reaffirms our initial speculation that Land Rover could be using the Tata Elxsi Research and Development Center located around the same area. This center caters to embedded software and hardware for automobiles. Land Rover could be testing the next generation car's electronics or perhaps outsourcing the software development.
The 2015 Freelander could possibly lose the 'Freelander' name. It is reported that the car would be a member of the extended Land Rover Discovery family. Already, LR have three cars under the 'Range Rover' sub brand and establishing another one could prove in their favor. Having these sub brands ensures that the product's core identity remains in focus.
The next generation Freelander could also come in two different styles: a five seater and a seven seater. It will make use of the Jaguar AJ-200 range of four cylinder engines. A supercharged petrol engine is also expected in the offing.
The current Freelander 2 is being locally assembled in India and it forms the entry lineup of the Land Rover brand.
The next generation Freelander is expected sometime in late 2014.
