Hyundai India's next major launch will be that of the next generation 2015 Hyundai i20.
Industry sources have told Indian Autos Blog to expect the launch of the hatchback to take place by September this year. India will be one of the first markets for the new generation i20, which is reported to have a European debut at the Paris Motor Show (which takes place in the first week of October).
Unlike the i10, wherein Hyundai continues to sell the older generation model along with the Grand i10, the current i20 will have to phased out of the market when the new i20 goes on sale, as it would cannibalize the Grand i10, if repositioned.
The new i20 is codenamed 'IB', and will be available with a petrol and diesel engine option. Hyundai may choose to carry over the engines from the current i20, which employs a 1.2-liter petrol and a 1.4-liter diesel. A 1.4-liter petrol is also available, but only with an automatic transmission.
Like the current i20, the 2015 i20 will be a feature rich premium hatch, sporting features such as ABS, airbags, alloy wheels, climate control, keyless entry with starter button, steering mounted audio controls, Bluetooth connectivity, reverse camera and parking sensors and automatic day/night interior mirror. Though it is bigger than the outgoing car, it will still be under four meters long.
With the new i20, Hyundai India will have three products in the premium-compact segment; Grand i10, Xcent and i20.
