The Tata Bolt, the second turnaround nominee for Tata Motors (the first being the Zest) is gearing up for its market launch and Indian Autos Blog brings you all the details from the ongoing media drive program.
Tata Bolt petrol
The Tata Bolt petrol borrows the 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine from the Zest. The newly developed powerplant comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox to produce 90 PS (88.7 bhp) at 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm.
The MPFI engine which employs an aluminium cylinder head and cast iron block is engineered to offer three driving modes to suit the driver's preference. Depending on the variants, the Bolt petrol weighs between 1,095 – 1,125 kg.
Tata Bolt diesel
The Tata Bolt diesel adopts the familiar Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre (MultiJet) four-cylinder turbo-intercooled motor which is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The AMT is not on offer, at least as of now. The oil burner is good for 75 PS (73.9 bhp) at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm between 1,750-3,000 rpm.
The diesel variants have a weight range of 1,130 - 1,160 kg.
Dimensions
The Maruti Swift rival measures 3,825 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,562 mm in height and has a wheelbase and ground clearance of 2,470 mm and 165 mm respectively. Fuel tank capacity for both fuel versions stand at 44 litres.
The fully loaded variant is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels which are wrapped in 175/65 R15 tubeless tyres. The hatchback has a minimum turning circle radius of 5.1 m. The boot has a volume of 210 litres.
Suspension, brakes and steering
McPherson struts with anti-roll bar, coil spring and lower wishbone suspend the front while the rear gets semi-independent torsional beams with coil spring and shock absorber.
All variants offer front disc and rear drum brakes with ABS, EBD and Corner Stability Control offered on top-end variants. The steering system is a speed sensitive electric power assisted unit with active return function.

Projector headlamps are available as standard. Features on the range-topping variants include dual front airbags, central locking with remote and anti-theft alarm, front and rear foglamps, ORVM-mounted blinkers, multi-information display, gear shift indicator, driver seat belt reminder, power windows and ORVMS, and ConnectNext Harman touchscreen 8-speaker multimedia infotainment system with Android smartphone-based navigation, Bluetooth, USB, Voice Recognition and Video playback.
