Finished in an exclusive 'Aurum Dust' color, the M4 concept previews the future production spec model. BMW will no longer make the M3 Coupe and it will instead be assigned to the 4 Series nomenclature (coupes and convertibles).
Breaking the bad news first, the company has not announced the engine the concept is carrying but it is more or less confirmed that the new M3 and M4 will use six-cylinder turbocharged engines producing 450bhp or upwards.
BMW only say and we quote "The three large air intakes supply the high performance power unit with sufficient cooling air".
The company has also detailed on the weight saving measures the concept employs. The front splitter, roof and the rear diffuser are made of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CRPF). The rest of the announcement only talks about the intricate details of the car such as the kidney grille, side gills and the wheels.
Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, President BMW M Division said -
The BMW Concept M4 Coupe reflects the BMW M philosophy in ideal form: It combines motor racing genes and unrestricted everyday suitability in a highly emotional overall concept. For four generations, the BMW M3 has put motor racing on the road and the BMW Concept M4 Coupe consistently continues to pursue this fundamental idea. The new model designation “M4” refers – like all other BMW M automobiles – to the series on which this concept car is based.
