Datsun announced redi-GO bookings will open on May 1, 2016.
Several dealers in Mumbai have already started accepting bookings for the Datsun redi-GO, despite Datsun announcing that bookings would be officially accepted from May 1, 2016. So far, they have received nearly 150 bookings in four days, reports Business Standard, even without a demo unit.
Reports suggest that the Datsun redi-GO will have a starting price of INR 2.44 Lakhs (ex-showroom), making it the least expensive new petrol hatchback after the Tata Nano. The Datsun redi-GO is banking on the Renault Kwid’s aggressive pricing strategy for its own success, and will target pre-family car buyers.
The redi-GO is based on the same CMF-A platform as the Renault Kwid, and follows the Kwid’s strategy of frugal engineering. It is lighter, has a longer wheelbase and higher ground clearance (185 mm) than the Kwid. Inside, however, it doesn’t get the option of an AVN system or a digital instrument cluster, to keep prices competitive.
The redi-GO will pack a 0.8-liter three cylinder engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Power output and fuel efficiency figures will be revealed closer to the launch, although Datsun claims that it will offer the best-in-class fuel mileage for a compact petrol hatchback.
Rivals: Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon
