Expected to launch in H2 2015.
Yamaha's sportbikes, the YZF-R25 and the YZF-R3, were spotted in India recently tossing up rumors that the Japanese company is considering either models for launch. Yamaha India have not confirmed which product will launch, but have instead focussed on introducing volume-oriented products in the commuter motorcycle and scooter segments with the Saluto and Fascino respectively.
Speaking to Indian Autos Blog at the Saluto's launch last month, Masaki Asano, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor India Sales Ltd., said that introduction of sportsbikes depends on the "customer needs in India". "Now, we're thinking. After R15, we're thinking segments above that, either through CBU or something", he said when asked about the R25 or R3's domestic launch.
Where the Yamaha R3 is powered by a twin-cylinder 321 cc engine capable of 42 PS and 29.6 Nm of torque, the Yamaha R25 gets a 249 cc twin developing 36 PS and 22.1 Nm of torque. Both motorcycles feature a 6-speed transmission and weigh 166 kg (R25) and 169 kg (R3).

The R3 is reportedly the likely candidate, and will rival established nameplates such as the KTM RC390 and the Kawasaki Ninja in India. However, if launched as a CBU, it could have a price disadvantage over its rivals, which are manufactured in India with high local content (RC390) or assembled from CKD kits (Ninja 300).
