Redesigned model under development in Japan.
With the second generation Yamaha R15 nearing the end of its lifecycle following its last major update in 2011, Yamaha is now readying the third generation Yamaha R15 (codename Yamaha BG7). In an interview with Financial Express, Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India, said that the Yamaha R15 V3.0 will improve in aspects of performance and safety.
Ishihara said "The R15 will become better in its next iteration, however, no details can be shared as to what would exactly the specifications be like, but we can assure that it will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety."
The next-gen Yamaha R15 is currently under development in Japan and allegedly being tested in Indonesia. Speculative renderings suggest the R15 will undergo an evolutionary redesign moving to its third generation. The all-new model is expected to feature a considerably more aggressive exterior, with some inspiration from the Yamaha R25.
The Yamaha R15 V2.0 is powered by a 149.8 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 17 PS (16.76 hp) and 15 Nm of torque. Power is channeled via a 6-speed transmission.

The Yamaha R15 V3.0 isn't expected to launch this fiscal year in India and hence ABS will be standard on the Yamaha R15 V3.0 right from launch, because starting April 2017, all newly launched two-wheelers with engine either or above 125 cc displacement will be required to have ABS as standard in India. Similarly, Combined Braking System (CBS) will also become mandatory.
