Could be launched in India.
Yamaha has unveiled the 2016 Yamaha MT-03, the naked version of the YZF-R3, and has announced the Japanese launch on October 10. PT. Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM), the Indonesian subsidiary, will supply the motorcycle to the Japanese market, with 4000 units planned for exports in the first year.
The MT-03 being the naked version is lighter than the R3 by 4 kg. It is based on the same diamond-type steel frame with handle bar placed for an upright seating position. The design is the same as the MT-25 with the exception of a larger displacement engine. The headlight is a single-lamp halogen unit above which are placed the LED position lights, while the rear gets the up-swept exhaust tailpipe.
The sports bike will be coming with the same 320cc parallel-twin, water-cooled engine that produces 41.4 bhp at 10,750 rpm and 30 Nm of peak torque at 9,000 rpm. It will be dispatched to the rear wheel through the familiar 6-speed transmission.
The suspension setup is telescopic shocks at the front and a swingarm at the rear while retardation duties are handled by single disc brakes at both ends.
In the Japanese market, the MT-03 is offered in three colours – Matt Silver, Black Metallic and Red Metallic. The company has also announced that the suggested price for the MT-03 is Yen 5,56,200 (INR 3,06,025).
India Yamaha Motor has not stated if it will launch the MT-03 in India. If it is launched in the domestic market, the MT-03 will compete against the KTM Duke 390, Benelli TNT 300 and the upcoming Kawasaki Z250SL.
