This year at the Auto Expo, Volkswagen India made an official announcement to enter the pre-owned car market in India. The German automaker further stated that their pre-owned car business will be called WeltAuto and it will sell both VW and non VW branded cars in the Indian market.
TheHindu reports that the company will start a pilot project soon either in Delhi or Mumbai. The company hopes to open 10 new dealerships for its pre-owned business by the end of Q2. However, it will restrict the business to major cities and Tier 1 and Tier 2 towns for now.
The pre-owned cars will be upgraded to make sure that there are no faults in them and an additional warranty will be given for the peace of mind for the customer. VW’s financing arm will take care of all the car loans for the customers. The rate of interest will be the industry average but more focus will be given the convenience of payment
The pre-owned car business is big money for major manufacturers. Thus most major manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Tata have their hands in this business in one way or the another. Although, VW is a late entrant in the market, it has been only 4 years since the automaker came to India. Quite a bullish move!
