Will be introduced in the VW Vento, followed by other models.
At the roll out of the VW Ameo in its Pune production plant, MD of VW India, Andreas Lauermann, told Carwale that the updated 1.5L TDI engine will output 108 bhp, a 5 bhp power bump over the older engine.
The updated engine is expected to be more fuel efficient than the previous unit, but produces the same 230 Nm torque figure. It will be introduced in the VW Vento first, followed by other models like the VW Polo, 2017 Skoda Rapid (facelift) and the VW Ameo compact sedan.
A report from earlier this month stated that the VW Ameo will initially launch with the 1.2L MPi petrol engine, while the diesel variant with the updated 1.5L TDI would be introduced in a later date. A 5-speed manual is standard in both models, while the diesel variant can also be had with a 7-speed DSG unit.
