Names after Indian winds also under consideration.

A report on Autocar India says that VW India's compact sedan could be called 'Bora'. The sub-4 meter sedan, which is based on the Polo's platform, is developed keeping in mind the Indian market, and is expected to launch in February next year, most likely at the Auto Expo.

Internally codenamed ICS (Indian Compact Sedan), VW now needs a name it can use on the car for its market introduction. The German car maker plans on using a name which has been used internationally before, and one that is derived from a wind (the Polo, Vento, Jetta, Golf and Passat names are derived from winds or ocean currents). Bora is a popular nameplate VW used for the Jetta in certain markets like Mexico and Colombia.

The compact sedan will be one of four launches VW India has outlined for the next 24 months. It is expected to borrow its engines from the Polo, which comes with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol, a 1.2-liter TSI matched exclusively to a 7-speed DSG, and a 1.5-liter TDI paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Apart from Bora, the report states that VW is also considering the name 'Derby', or even names after Indian winds for the ICS.

Expected Price: INR 5.5-8 lakhs, ex-Showroom
Launch date: Early-2016
