The talking newspaper last week served as a morning jolt to me. It was a very novel idea however, triggering of an avalanche of bookings.
Indian Cars Bikes reports Volkswagen has registered 4,000 bookings for the Vento. The Polo's waiting period has stretched into months and the Vento's rush of bookings will put more pressure on Volkswagen. If anything, waiting periods are set to increase.
The Vento's segment has Maruti, Hyundai, Honda, Fiat and Ford battling it out with some fine products. The company has started the second shift at the Chakan facility and is hardly able to keep up with the demand. Till now, it has only managed to deliver 11,000 cars out of the 19,000 orders.
The Volkswagen Vento comes with a diesel engine that segment leader Honda City misses out. The reaction of the Indian customer to the Vento was expected and with such a brilliant marketing team working in the VW building, it's not hard to forsee more customers walking into their dealerships in the future.
