Rumours about a 125 cc Bajaj Pulsar have been brewing for a while now. A new report from Autocar India says that this model will look closer to the classic Pulsar 150. The Bajaj Pulsar 125 is expected to be launched as early as in August 2019.

The 125cc Bajaj Pulsar can be expected to have a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

Bajaj Auto officials have time and again been giving hints about a new Pulsar-badged product in the making. Two-wheeler sales volumes have witnessed a major fall across the segments and brands due to higher insurance costs and the introduction of stricter safety norms (CBS/ABS). The upcoming BS-VI emission norms are expected to further add to the woes of manufacturers and customers alike. Hence, Bajaj Auto seems to be going back to smaller engine products.

Bajaj Auto retails a 125 cc Bajaj Pulsar NS125 in the European market which resembles the now discontinued (in the domestic market) Pulsar LS135. Powering this bike is a 124.45 cc single-cylinder air-cooled, twin spark, 4-valve, engine. That’s a layout very similar to that of the Pulsar LS135. However, to meet the stricter European emission regulations (Euro 4 is stricter than BS-IV), Bajaj uses fuel injection instead of a carburettor to mix fuel and air.

Coupled to a 5-speed gearbox, the Bajaj Pulsar NS125’s DTS-i engine produces 12 PS of power and 10.8 Nm of torque. Expect the new Bajaj Pulsar 125 to have a similar output, however, it may initially be launched with a carburettor. Having said that, Bajaj Auto will invariably have to move to fuel injection to meet the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.

A 125 cc Pulsar will not only help Bajaj Auto to bring the price point close to the ailing Discover brand but also position it well so as not to cannibalise the sales of its best-selling model - the Pulsar 150. Expect the Pulsar 125 to be priced around INR 60,000 to INR 62,000.
