Shortly after its leaks, the Toyota Raize has sub-4 metre SUV has been launched in Japan. It has been priced ranging from JPY 16,79,000 (INR 10.93 lakh) to JPY 22,82,200 (INR 14.85 lakh).
The Toyota Raize is based on the flexible and low-cost DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform. It has been restricted to sub-4 metres in length, and the company claims that it is developed to be "active, useful, and compact" and features class-leading luggage capacity and interior space. It shares its underpinnings with the Daihatsu Rocky.
The Toyota Raize has been designed to feel compact from the outside, yet rich in space from the inside. It measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,695 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,525 mm. It boasts a boot capacity of 369 litres which is claimed to be the best-in-segment.
As for the mechanicals, it uses a 1.0-litre turbo engine with D-CVT ― used in a Toyota vehicle for the first time. The 12-valve turbo-petrol engine is rated to deliver 98 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 140.2 Nm of peak torque at 2,400-4,000 rpm. A manual transmission will be introduced at a later stage.
The Toyota Raize will have a Daihatsu version also in Japan very soon - the Rocky. Moreover, it will spawn a Toyota-Suzuki B-SUV duo which will rival the Hyundai Creta in the future.

The advanced safety technology and features of Toyota Raize include Adaptive Cruise Control with All Speed Tracking and the Smart Panorama Parking Assist system and an audio display system. Furthermore, it comes equipped with Toyota's latest Smart Assist safety features, including the Crash Avoidance Braking Function which detects both vehicles and pedestrians. Also, it gets Erroneous Start Prevention Function with braking control (forward and backward).
