According to a report from The Economic Times, Maruti Suzuki will launch a three-row version of the Wagon R, as reported earlier.
Suzuki contemplated a three-row Suzuki Wagon R for emerging markets 4 years ago. The company introduced the Suzuki Wagon R 3 Rows Concept at the IIMS 2013, but did not put it into production. BNVSAP norms will apply to new cars in India starting October next year. Maruti Suzuki will launch an all-new Maruti Wagon R that complies with stricter safety norms. The new generation model will have a three-row version going into production, instead.

The next-gen Maruti Wagon R’s three-row version will sell as the brand’s entry-level MPV. It will compete with the likes of the Renault RBC and Datsun GO+. Maruti Suzuki will most likely keep the MPV’s length under four metres to qualify for a lower excise duty and avoid any conflict with the Maruti Ertiga. The A-segment MPV may have the same wheelbase as the next-gen Maruti Wagon R. The company could stretch the hatchback’s length from behind the rear wheels to add the two additional seats.

In addition to the next-gen Maruti Wagon R’s three-row MPV version, Maruti Suzuki will launch a crossover on the basis of the next-gen Maruti Ertiga and a Mahindra XUV500 rivaling premium SUV as well. The latter will likely arrive by the end of 2019, Maruti Suzuki Chairman R C Bhargava has said.
