Tata Motors has officially confirmed that a Nexon EV is indeed in the making. It will be the first recipient of the newly announced Ziptron powertrain and be launched in Q4 FY2019-20 (January-March 2020).
Ziptron is an EV powertrain technology from Tata Motors which has been designed in-house utilising the company's global engineering network. With an efficient high voltage system, zippy performance, long-range, fast charging capability and dust and waterproof battery system meeting IP67 standards, comes with an impeccable 8-years warranty. This technology has been rigorously tested for over a million kilometres.
The Ziptron technology utilities a permanent magnet AC motor and features smart regenerative braking which charges up the battery on the move. Along with the introduction of Ziptron, Tata Motors also came up with the Freedom 2.0 marketing campaign which highlights how the Ziptron "provides freedom from pollution, addresses range anxiety and offers electrifying driving performance."
The Ziptron technology comprises of advanced lithium-ion cells and has been rated to deliver about 300 km on a single charge. The battery pack will feature liquid-cooling and will be encased in IP67 casing which has been developed to protect critical electric vehicle components.

The Tata Nexon EV's price is expected to fall in the range of INR 15-17 lakh (ex-showroom). In other news, Tata Motors has joined hand with What3Words, in order to improve the navigation services in its vehicles.
