In another sign that Tata Motors is pinning its hope of a sales revival on the upcoming Tata Zest and Tata Bolt models, the company announced yesterday that it, in association with its channel partners, would hire over 3,000 people across all Tata Motors dealerships nationally.
The hire would cover customer advisors, team leaders and sales managers, across 200 dealerships. A newly introduced recruitment process which involves the candidate undertaking psychometric and aptitude tests will be followed.
The dealerships themselves will undergo changes with regards to the ambience, purchase experience and after-market service. The revamped dealerships will be loaded with technology, wherein, customers, with help of specially trained sales managers, will be able to configure their cars real time on video walls using tablet PCs.
The Tata Zest is a compact sedan that will take on the likes of the Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and Chevrolet Sail. The Bolt will be positioned to rival the likes of the Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, Honda Brio, Chevrolet Sail UV-A, Nissan Micra, Renault Pulse, etc.
Powering the petrol variants of the Bolt and Zest will be the job of Tata’s newly-developed 1.2-liter turbocharged Revotron engine which produces 85 PS at 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm. The petrol variants were announced with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel variants source their power from Fiat’s 1.3-liter Multijet engine. The Zest diesel was announced with an automated manual transmission (AMT), a first for a car in this segment.
