At the Auto Expo 2014, Tata Motors showcased the Magic IRIS Electric. The zero-emission, last mile commercial passenger vehicle runs on Lithium Ion battery modules of 110 Ah @ 48V.
The IRIS electric can run up to 100 km with two battery modules which take maximum of eight hours to charge through an on-board charger. Additionally, the Magic IRIS electric comes with a 120 watt solar panel on the roof for supplementary charging.
Inside, the Magic IRIS electric can seat four adults. It is seen with a new infotainment system powered by Android OS. The 7” touch screen display shows important vehicle related information like battery range, battery ‘State of Health’ (SOH) and ‘State of Charge’ (SOC), etc.
The Magic Iris Electric is driven by a three-phase induction motor that develops 9 kW @ 2,100 rpm and 42 Nm @ 0-2,100 rpm. The gearbox is a single-speed trans-axle. The vehicle measures 2,960 mm long, 1,512 mm wide and 1,840 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 1,650 mm. The kerb weight is 733 kg, while the brakes, both front and rear, are 180 mm drums.
The tires are 145 R 12 LT 6PR radial ply, while the steering is the same rack and pinion unit. The suspension up front is a McPherson strut while the rear is a coil spring with a semi trailing arm.
