The Tata Kite hatchback will be launched before its sedan version, and will manufactured at the Sanand plant.

The small car is based on a reengineered version of the X0 platform which is the one that underpins the tried and tested Tata Indica family. While the base of the Kite hatchback is taken from an old car, the design language is adopted from the company's latest product, the Tata Bolt.

The Kite hatchback will replace the Indica in the personal car segment, and could get EPS and an e-Clutch.

The Kite will not only feature similar styling to the Bolt, but familiar equipment too. Starting from the new steering wheel that is being fitted to the latest models as the company's signature feature, the Kite is apparently given a Harman music system as well.

Powering the Tata Kite will be two three-cylinder engines, with the petrol motor having a displacement of 1.2 litres and the diesel mill having 1.05 litres, as per reports. Transmission options are reported to include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

The hatchback is expected to roll out of Tata Motors' Sanand plant in December 2015, followed by the launch of the compact sedan variant.
