The international sales of Royal Enfield in the month of April 2018 has gone down by one percent, year-on-year. The brand sold 1,560 units abroad, as opposed to 1,578 in the same month, last year.
In the domestic market, it tallied 74,627 in April, registering a 27% growth year-on-year. Overall, RE sold 76,187 versus 60,142 in the same month, the previous year. This translates into a growth of 27%. Last month, the brand announced a capital expenditure of INR 800 crore for the year 2018-19 with emphasis on the commencement of construction of Phase-2 of the Vallam Vadagal plant in Tamil Nadu.

In 2018-19, with the first phase of the Vallam Vadagal factory enjoying its first full year of operations; and with productivity optimization at its Oragadam plant, Royal Enfield will have an annual production capacity of about 950,000 units. The investment will also focus on the completion of Royal Enfield’s Technology Centre in Chennai, and development of new products to meet upcoming regulations and to expand its portfolio for the global markets.
The brand has reportedly opened bookings for its flagship products, the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 in the UK. Its India launch will reportedly happen by September 2018. The two motorcycles will be one of the most competitively priced products in the segment.
