Launches in India in the second half of this year.
Renault took the wraps of its all-new small car, the Renault Kwid, in an event in Chennai, India, today. The Kwid will go on sale in India towards the festive season period (September-November period) with prices ranging between INR 3-4 lakhs.
The technical specifications of the Kwid are still under wraps. Renault has confirmed a new 800 cc petrol engine for the car with "best-in-class" fuel efficiency, and the show cars were paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The French car maker has ruled out a diesel engine though.
Dimension wise, the Kwid measures 3.68 meters in length and 1.58 meters in width, and is claimed to get a boot with "best-in-class" load capacity. The top-end variants of the Kwid will be equipped with features such as foglights, front power windows, an optional airbag and a 7-inch Media NAV system with Bluetooth telephony.
The Kwid is the first car to be built on the CMF-A platform, and will be sold in emerging markets outside India as well. However, Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan alliance ruled out the small car for the European market.
The Kwid's biggest competitors in the Indian market are the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon.
