Renault Kwid world premieres in India – IAB Report [Update]

To be launched in the September-November period for INR 3-4 lakhs.

Renault India has unveiled the Renault Kwid in India, its first global launch to be held outside Europe. The car will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan joint venture plant in Oragadam, Chennai, and launched in the Indian market in the September and November for a price between INR 3-4 lakhs.

Renault-Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn said the Renault Kwid is Renault taking another big step and to make customers’ everyday life easier with a car that is robust, innovative and connected. The Renault Kwid bears the name of the concept car that the company unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014.

Renault says the A-segment have attractive, innovative or affordable cars but Kwid has all three attributes in one car – offering style, comfort and innovative features at an affordable price. The name ‘Kwid’, the company says, inspires curiosity and gives an impression of youth and modernity.

With SUV cues and an overall length of 3.68 meters and an overall width of 1.58 meters, it meets desires and needs of the entire Indian family. Its exterior design exudes strength and reliability with the short overhangs and high ground clearance. The interior is designed to inspire confidence – with clean lines, a digital instrument cluster and chrome air vents.

Renault says the Kwid will come with MediaNAV – that has radio, Bluetooth, navigation functions accessed via a 7-inch touchscreen – a first in segment. Its fuel efficiency will be “among the best in India.”

The Kwid’s development drew from resources in Japan, France, Korea and India. 98 percent of its suppliers are located in India. It is the first car to be built on the CMF-A platform and will be powered by an 800 cc engine.

The Renault Kwid will be launched in India first, developing markets next, global markets later. The car will come with an airbag as an option.

      yes the price is going to be in the 4L range for top end, on road price will not be too harsh on pocket.

    The tyres can surely be changed to better match the size. It is just cost cutting. Not a big issue. But a suv look alike hatch will sell like hot cake if diesel engine is an option.

    Looks like they have designed a compact SUV and fitted it with Alto wheels….Except for the unproportionate wheels, the car looks good

    This car looks bigger than Alto, Eon etc.. probably comparable to Grand i10, Wagon R etc. Looks like they have a winner here if they price it to the level of Alto.

    The car looks more solid and attractive!!! I think this car will be a big winner for Renault!! If the customer’s expectation is met, this car will be a winner for sure.. i hope black colour available!! will het one soon…
