After a grand success with the Hector, MG Motor India is all set to launch the ZS EV (also called eZS) in India. The all-electric SUV will be revealed on 5 December 2019. The pre-bookings will commence in December this year, while the launch of the same is said to take place in January 2020.
MG has even teased the ZS EV on its social media handles in the past with the caption "EVen against the odds", in a way promoting the usage of EVs during the 'Odd-Even' rule which has been enforced in the national capital for a limited period. Moreover, it has even been caught amid road tests several times earlier this year.
The MG ZS EV will be imported from China in CKD units, which will be locally assembled at the Halol plant in Gujarat. Trials on the assembly line have already commenced. It is even claimed that the MG ZS EV could be given to select customers even before its market launch. MG will source batteries and other vital components for the ZS EV from CATL, the world's biggest lithium-ion battery manufacturer. Also, MG plans to come up with fast-charging infrastructures across select locations within the next few months.
For the uninitiated, the ZS EV, as the name says, is the pure electric variant of the MG ZS, which competes with the Hyundai Creta in the international market. It spans 4,314 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width and 1,620 mm/1,644 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,585 mm and a ground clearance of 161 mm.
As for the mechanicals, it utilises an electric motor which delivers 110 kW (150 PS) of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. This motor pushes the ZS EV off the 0-50 km/h mark in just 3.1 seconds. The motor is juiced up from a 44.5 kWh battery pack which is good enough to deliver a 335 km (NEDC) range.
