After introducing the Mercedes C-Class facelift with two diesel engine options in September 2018, Mercedes-Benz India has silently added a petrol engine option in the form of a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder model. Available in a single variant - C200 Progressive - it is priced at INR 43.46 lakh*.
Powering the fuel-sipping Mercedes C-Class is the new M264 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 135 kW (184 PS) at 5,800-6,100 rpm and 280 Nm of torque at 3,000-4,000 rpm. It is equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that offers an additional 12 kW (10 PS) and 160 Nm of torque.
The mild-hybrid system makes up for the initial turbo-lag faced by the combustion engine, and it also provides for reaching the ideal engine speed quickly during gearshifts. Resultantly, the shift time of the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission, to which the 1.5-litre engine is married to, is reduced. Benefits of the EQ Boost include smoother engine starts and zero-emission coasting function as well.
The equipment on offer includes a multi-function steering wheel with a dual touchpad control system, 10.25-inch high-resolution screen for the COMAND infotainment unit, panoramic sunroof, active parking assist, a smartphone integration package, and an ambient lighting package with 64 colours.
