The new GL Class will be manufactured at Mercedes' plant in Alabama, Vance, and will reach U.S. dealer showrooms next month.

The Vance plant has already started shipping knocked-down kits of the new ML Class to plants in Asia. Mercedes Benz India is likely to start assembly of the ML Class during the festival season at its plant in Pune.

At present Mercedes Benz sells fully-loaded CBU units of the ML Class. MB USA's president Marcus Schaefer said he will also send some personnel to the Indian plant to help kick start assembly.

Mercedes Benz has also confirmed the entry of the new GL Class into India next year. Like the ML Class, the new 7-seat GL Class will start out in India as a CBU and thereafter will be assembled locally. Mercedes is likely to fit the new GL Class with a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine generating 240hp, paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes Benz runs assembly plants in India, Indonesia and Thailand. These plants assemble the C Class, E Class and S Class models.
