Citing sources privy to the development, the report says that the Maruti WagonR EV will have support AC standard charging and DC fast charging. The latter will allow charging to 80% level in less than an hour, although it’s unclear whether that will be from 0% capacity or from low-charge warning level. Charging the battery completely using an AC standard charger will take seven hours.

Maruti Suzuki is developing the WagonR EV using prototypes based on the JDM-spec WagonR. It has made 50 such prototypes, with an AC charging port on the front and a DC charging port on the rear. Their road testing commenced in October last year.

The first-ever Maruti WagonR EV is expected to look close to the third generation Maruti WagonR that was launched last month. It will offer a range of over 200 km on a full charge. That’s much higher than that of the Tata Tiago EV*, which can go up to 130 km (MIDC cycle) on a full charge.
