Maruti Ertiga 1.5L diesel launched, priced from INR 9.86 lakh

Following the Maruti Ciaz last month, the Maruti Ertiga has received the all-new, indigenously developed E15A diesel engine. Prices of the Maruti Ertiga 1.5L diesel start at INR 9.86 lakh*.

2018 Maruti Ertiga Image Front Three Quarters 1 — Along with the all-new diesel engine, Maruti Suzuki has introduced a 6-speed manual transmission in the Ertiga.

The E15A 1.5-litre DDIS 225 diesel engine produces 70 kW (95.17 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm. This BS-IV engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, available in the Maruti Ertiga for the first time now. It delivers a fuel economy of 24.20 km/l. The Fiat-developed D13A 1.3-litre diesel engine featuring the old single-battery Proven Smart Hybrid mild-hybrid system is still available. Owing to cost concerns, none of these engines will be upgraded to BS-VI, and so, they will be discontinued by March 2020.

Maruti Suzuki says that it has used 'pendulum type engine mountings' to reduce NVH levels on the new engine, and also that the use of ‘Dual Mass flywheel’ has contributed to reduced engine fluctuations, resulting in smoother power delivery and reduced vibrations.

Sharing his thoughts on the introduction of the new engine, RS Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, commented: "Considering the requirements of evolving customers, the Next Gen Ertiga is now offered with new 1.5-litre Diesel engine. The second generation Maruti Ertiga is available with the K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine featuring the new dual-battery Progressive Smart Hybrid System also. This engine, paired with a standard 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission, will be upgraded to conform to BS-VI emission norms.
