Buyers will have to shell out more for Maruti Suzuki products come June 2018. As per a report from CarDekho, prices of Maruti cars in India will be increased by up to 2%. There is no official word from MSIL in this regard yet.
The report cites dealer level sources who claim the price hike will range from INR 5,000 - INR 25,000 depending upon the model. The increment in prices will encompass Nexa and Arena products from India's largest selling car maker.
While the reason for the hike is unclear at the moment, it is likely to be an outcome of increased input costs with an increase in commodity prices, freight increase with hike in fuel prices along with the increase in custom duties.
MSIL currently sells the Maruti Alto 800, Maruti Alto K10, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Celerio, Maruti Swift, Maruti Dzire, Maruti Ertiga, and the Maruti Vitara Brezza through their regular Arena dealerships. The Omni and Eeco targeting the commercial end of the market are also sold. Its premium Nexa outlets retail the Maruti Ignis, Maruti Baleno, Maruti Ciaz, and Maruti S-Cross.
Maruti Suzuki's recent car launches in India include the 2018 Maruti Swift and Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT. Forthcoming launches include the 2018 Maruti Ertiga, Maruti Ciaz facelift, and the new generation Maruti Wagon R.
Over the last fiscal (April 2017 - March 2018), Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,779,574 units registering a growth of 13.4% over the previous fiscal. The domestic market accounted for the sales of 1,653,500 units, while exports stood at 126,074 units.
In April 2018, 7 models in the top 10 best selling cars list belonged to Maruti Suzuki. The Maruti Dzire topped the charts followed by the Maruti Swift and Maruti Alto. The company's market share for that month stood at 55%.
Moving forward, Suzuki will develop a compact, ultrahigh-efficiency powertrain with the help of Denso and Toyota. TKM will manufacture models developed by Suzuki for sale in the Indian market through Toyota and Maruti Suzuki dealer networks. The Toyota-Suzuki partnership includes Suzuki providing the Baleno and Vitara Brezza to Toyota for sale in India. In turn, Toyota will supply Maruti with the Corolla Altis to be sold with a Suzuki badge in India.
