Features the lightest engine in its class.
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Maruti Celerio diesel debuting Suzuki's first diesel engine, a two-cylinder unit displacing 793 cc, will be launched on June 3. As said in a previous story, the Maruti Celerio diesel will be India's most fuel efficient car with an ARAI-rated mileage of 27.62 km/l.
The built-for-economy engine produces 47 bhp at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Weighing 89 kg, it is the lightest diesel engine in the passenger segment, undercutting the Beat and the Grand i10. While making a comparatively lower torque, it has a higher torque/cc than the the Fiat 1.3-liter engine on the Swift. A hydraulic clutch and a new 5-speed manual gearbox with low mechanical losses are part of the drivetrain.
The Celerio diesel will come in four variants - LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O). Safety features ABS, EBD and dual front airbags are only available in the top-end model, and as would a driver-seat height adjuster.
Expect the Celerio diesel to cost about INR 80,000 over the corresponding petrol variant.
