The Baleno is 100 kg lighter than the Swift.
According to a report on Business Standard, the recently-launched Maruti Baleno is eating into the Maruti Swift's sales owing to its stylish design, better feature list and improved fuel efficiency.
In September 2015, prior to the Baleno's launch, Maruti sold 18,278 units of the Swift. However, since the Baleno's launch in October 2015, the Swift recorded significantly lower sales of 17,669 (October 2015), 11,859 (November 2015) and 14,548 (December 2015).
In the corresponding months of November and December 2014, the Swift recorded sales of 17,900 and 17,410 units respectively. The sales drop corresponds to 33 percent and 16.4 percent for the months of November and December respectively.
Prices for the Maruti Swift start at INR 4.67 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi for the LXi variant without ABS, EBD or dual front airbags. However, the Maruti Baleno at INR 5.11 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi offers all the above safety features standard.

The Baleno is also based on an all-new lightweight platform and is around 100 kg lighter than the Swift. As a result, where the Swift delivers 20.4 km/l (petrol) and 25.2 km/l (diesel), the Maruti Baleno returns a higher 21.4 km/l (petrol) and 27.39 km/l (diesel). Both cars are powered by the same engines though: the 1.2-liter K-Series petrol and 1.3-liter DDiS diesel. However, where the Swift is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission, the Baleno petrol adds the option of a CVT.
