Took an investment of INR 58 crores.
Mahindra has unveiled a 6-speed automatic transmission for the Mahindra XUV500. The auto variant is priced from INR 15.36 lakhs (ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai) or INR 15.53 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi), which is around one lakh rupees more than the equivalent manual version. The XUV500 automatic will available across all dealerships in the country from the 5th of December.
This is the same 6-speed automatic gearbox that is used in the SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV. It is sourced from Aisin (a Japanese company). This transmission unit is also used in the diesel version of the SsangYong Korando C. According to Mahindra, the gear ratios have been optimized for Indian terrain, and has been tested extensively. This second generation transmission is the first high-tech product to be shared with SsangYong, Mahindra said.

Mahindra has invested around INR 58 crores on this transmission to suit the XUV500. The company has mentioned that this gearbox is bound to be used in other projects in the future.
It was earlier reported that the Mahindra Scorpio automatic, which uses a 6-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) of Australia, will switch to an Aisin auto transmission next year.
